  • The search for knowledge is the primary goal of fundamental research. In this lookKIT issue, we highlight researchers who are inspired by scientific curiosity and the desire to better understand our world. One of him is Professor Lennart Hilbert from the Institute of Biological and Chemical Systems (IBCS). He wants to understand exactly how the processes in the cell nucleus work. Based on this knowledge, he aims to develop DNA-based hardware for the future. Our universe is full of mysteries and particle physics is dedicated to unraveling them. This requires joint efforts. Professor Kathrin Valerius from the Institute for Astroparticle Physics (IAP) talks about the many large-scale international research projects in particle and astroparticle physics in which KIT is involved. Dr. Thomas Forbriger from from the Geophysical Institute (GPI) reports on the solution of a scientific mystery. In September 2023, seismometers all around the world recorded a previously unknown signal. You can find out what caused the signal and how international seismologists worked together to solve the mystery, along with many other topics in lookKIT.
