Overhead (flat-rate Overheads)

Centrally financed infrastructure services of the KIT (e.g. use of rooms and equipment, electricity, heating, water, administrative tasks) are used in the context of third-party funded projects. These overhead costs (especially in the case of contract research) are generally to be collected by the third-party funding provider when estimating the expenses for a research project.

At KIT, there are regulations for deducting a percentage of third-party funding income, the so-called "internal overhead deduction", which remains in the central budget. This ensures an appropriate share of the centrally financed overhead costs. The current overhead rates are published regularly in a circular from the Executive Board.
