Freedom - a big word with many facets, which we address in this issue of lookKIT. When interviewed, historian Professor Rolf-Ulrich Kunze from the Institute for Technology Futures (ITZ) speaks about the dangers caused to freedom and the constitutional state by right-wing populism. The interview with Volker Stelzer from the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) deals with the limits of freedom in the context of the heated climate change debate. Moreover, we focus on the connection between energy and security policies. Professor Roland Dittmeyer from the Institute for Micro Process Engineering (IMVT) and Professor Wolf Fichtner from the Institute for Industrial Production (IIP) explain the current state of the energy transition. Finally, we introduce the new President of KIT, Professor Jan S. Hesthaven. In the interview, he speaks about his plans for the further development of KIT in challenging times and his understanding of academic freedom.
