The concept of Industry 4.0 stands for the combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and information technologies in smart, networked production. Ideally, manufacturing controls and optimizes itself, with customers’ wishes realized in a highly adapted, efficient, and sustainable way. For this transformation to succeed, technology, organization, and human beings have to interact smoothly.
The KIT supports and advances this process in a variety of projects in research, academic education, and innovation. A graphic tool developed by the Karlsruhe Service Research Institute illustrates data flows and identifies, combines, and represents a company’s process flows. KIT’s Institute of Production Science offers Industry 4.0 guidelines for companies. Within the framework of the ScaleIT project, the Institute of Telematics has developed hardware as well as freely configurable software for medium-sized enterprises.
